Every wedding is special and every love is unique. So is every wedding photographer, so you have to make sure that you choose the right one. Not every wedding photographer is right for every single wedding, and choosing can be understandably difficult, especially if you are not an experienced photographer yourself. Each photographer has his or her own approach, but mine involves story-telling.

Hi, my name is Susan Black, and I love taking wedding pictures for couples because I am a story teller and there is so much story in any wedding. The lines of that story are written on the face of the radiant bride as she “accidentally” smooshes some of the most amazing wedding cake in Tampa all over the face of a groom who himself adds a few lines with the creases at the edges of his eyes that lets everyone know that this might be unexpected but it certainly is not unappreciated. Other lines are written on the tongue of the ring bearer who is sticking that particular tongue out at flower girl who has been protesting the fact that she does not have cooties since rehearsal on Thursday afternoon. There is pride and dignity mixed with a sense of loss on the face of a father as he walks down the aisle with daddy’s little girl, even though she really isn’t that little precocious girl who demanded to be pushed higher and higher on the tire swing anymore. These are all stories in the present, but they will soon be stories of the past.

There are stories from the past that were brought up to the present for only a few moments, such as old college roommates getting together for a group hug and a few giggles at the reception, or the way a grandparent looks as their son and knows well the pain and admiration that comes with finally cutting the cord between father and daughter only to re-establish the relationship as one between a married woman and her loving father.
Believe it or not, stories of the future can also be told at weddings. There is a certain eager look in the eyes of both the bridge and the groom, which is only understandable as months of planning are about to pay off as they are pronounced man and wife. There may be more than a few looks of envy, or perhaps a few eyes batted in the direction of the best man by one of the bride’s maids that could very well signal that start of a relationship that could very well end up in another wedding down the road.
All of these details are parts of stories that will be told by many people in many different ways to an even greater number of people throughout the years. That is the beauty of photographs, and that is why I firmly believe that wedding photography is a way to capture stories and then save them digitally and print them out whenever needed. What stories does your wedding have to tell, and will your photographer be able to tell them? I’m Susan Black, and it has been by distinct privilege and honor to capture hundreds of individual stories over my 4 years working as a professional wedding photographer in Tampa. Contact me now and tell me how I can help capture the many stories of your wedding so that they will not be lost to history.
